Bid to Chair OSCE

A trustworthy and reliable partner of the West, Kazakhstan's bid to chair the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) enjoys wide support from the majority of member states. Kazakhstan staunchly affirms its commitment to liberal economic and democratic values and international human rights obligations. A decision to award Kazakhstan the chairmanship of the OSCE would breathe new life into the rapid evolution of Central Asia and promote political and economic freedom in the region.

Kazakhstan is proud to have maintained good relations with all of the major international players, including Russia, China, the U.S. and the EU. In fact, United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said, “Kazakhstan has a leading position in the region, a leading position in international security and economic development. Kazakhstan is an island of stability in the Central Asian region and a key partner in strengthening stability and security … Kazakhstan has an unprecedented opportunity to lead Central Asia to a democratic future…”

  • In 2006, Kazakhstan effectively presided over the Third Conference on Review of the CFE Treaty.
  • Kazakhstan hosted the OSCE Conference on Tolerance, singled-out by the OSCE and the EU leadership for its efficient organization.
  • Kazakhstan's strategic position in this vital region makes it an ideal choice to promote democratic values.
