Kazakhstan’s own Saule Suleimenova has captured the imaginations of audiences internationally with her inventive wax engravings on paper. Suleimenova has said that her artistic aim is to “reflect this world in its full pain and beauty,” which she does with her bright, exciting renderings of seemingly mundane things—houses, commuter buses and even seasons. Suleimenova’s work can be seen in galleries and private collections in the United States and across Europe and Asia.
Suleimenova received a degree with honors from the Almaty State Academy of Architecture & Construction in 1996. She has received numerous awards, including prizes at the 2001 Zhiger exhibition in Almaty, and the Shabyt festival in Astana.
