While the people of Kazakhstan have left their nomadic past behind and settled into cities, towns and villages, they have maintained their culture and traditions while adapting fully to modern life. Family is still traditionally the strongest influence in Kazakh society, while courtesy, respect and a healthy sense of competition remain admired values.
Tourism is a growing industry in Kazakhstan. The northern branch of the Great Silk Road passes through ancient cities, and the country is home to thousands of historical sites, beautiful mountain resorts and stunning examples of modern architecture. With a long-standing artistic tradition, Kazakh music, folklore and dance are the treasuries of centuries of national wisdom and cultural identity.
Foreign investment and Kazakhstan’s robust natural resources industry have lifted the country out of the Soviet era. The larger cities of Kazakhstan are home to cultural attractions such as professional orchestras, art galleries and museums, as well as popular entertainment like bowling alleys, movie theaters, restaurants and five-star hotels.
